It is with profound sadness that the partners and staff of Dussias Wittenberg Koenigsberger LLP announce the passing of our beloved founding partner, Dean Spiro Dussias. Dean passed away on June 14, 2026, at the age of 61, surrounded by the love of his family.
Dean was born and raised in the Chicago area and went on to earn his undergraduate degree from Loyola University and his law degree from the University of Illinois School of Law. He built an extraordinary legal career, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues, clients, and judges throughout Illinois and beyond. As a founding principal of Dussias Wittenberg Koenigsberger LLP, Dean became one of the most respected family law attorneys in the state. His leadership, integrity, and dedication to the profession were recognized through numerous honors, including his service as President of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and as a board member of the Hellenic Bar Association. Throughout his career, Dean was known not only for his legal expertise but also for the compassion, wisdom, and humanity he brought to every client and colleague he encountered.
Above all else, Dean was a family man. A proud Greek Orthodox Christian and a man of deep faith, Dean lived a life defined by generosity, laughter, and an unwavering love for those around him. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Maria; their children, Stephanie, Sammy, and Arthur; and his brother, Tom.
Dean possessed a truly rare gift: he made everyone around him feel special. He was endlessly funny, incredibly generous, brilliantly intelligent, and larger than life in every sense. His quick wit, infectious laugh, and magnetic personality could light up any room he entered. Friends, colleagues, clients, and even strangers were drawn to his warmth and authenticity. There was simply no one else like him. He was one of one.
Dean was not only our partner but our dear friend. His vision, leadership, and character were foundational to this firm and to the careers of everyone who had the privilege of working alongside him. While his accomplishments were many, Dean’s greatest legacy is the love he gave and the countless lives he touched. We will carry forward his example of excellence, integrity, and genuine care for others as we continue to serve our clients and community.
We kindly ask that you keep the Dussias family in your thoughts and prayers during this time.
